Goa has two airports and they are at opposite ends of the state. Manohar International at Mopa (GOX) sits in Pernem, in the far north, and opened to commercial flights in January 2023. Dabolim (GOI) is beside Vasco da Gama in the south, on a naval airfield, and was the only way to fly into Goa for decades. Between them is most of the state.
So the useful question is not which airport is better. It is which one is nearer the bed you want to be in. Get that wrong and your first drive in Goa is two hours long, at whatever hour your flight happens to land.

The line falls almost exactly where you would expect it to: at the rivers. North of the Mandovi — Candolim, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Morjim, Arambol — Mopa wins every row. South of the Zuari — Vasco, Margao, Colva, Benaulim, Palolem — Dabolim wins every row. In the middle, around Panjim, Dona Paula, Old Goa and Ponda, the two are within a few hundred rupees of each other (Panjim / Dona Paula, Old Goa / Ponda) and the choice stops mattering.
The two extremes worth knowing
Longest transfer on the board: Mopa to Palolem / Agonda, ₹2,900.
That is the length of Goa, north to south.
Shortest: Dabolim to Vasco / Bogmalo, ₹650 — the airport
is effectively in that town.
If you are staying at Palolem or Agonda and you have a genuine choice of flights, that gap is worth more than a cheaper ticket. It is not only the money: it is two and a half hours in a car after a flight, twice, because you have to do it again on the way home.
Count the return leg before you decide
People book the arrival carefully and forget the departure. A 06:00 flight out of Mopa from a hotel in Benaulim means a pickup at around 02:30, and a night rate on the fare. The same flight out of Dabolim is a civilised hour later. Check both legs against your hotel before you fix the tickets, not after.
What does not change, whichever you land at
- The fare is per car, not per seat. Four of you pay what one of you pays, so the figures above are the whole cost of getting your party to the hotel.
- Tolls and the driver’s allowance are inside the number. Nothing is collected at a booth and nothing is settled at the end.
- The driver tracks your flight. Give us the flight number and a delayed arrival costs nothing extra — you are buying the journey, not the hour.
- A night rate applies between 19:00 and 06:00. It is shown in your quote before you pay, never added to it afterwards.
If you have already booked the “wrong” airport
It is a longer drive, not a problem. Every one of the rows above is a published fare, so a Mopa to Palolem run costs the same as it would if you had planned it six months ago — a long transfer is not a surcharge, and nobody at the kerb gets to decide the number. Give us the flight and the hotel and it is priced before you travel.
One practical thing: on a long transfer, ask for a class with the boot for your bags rather than the seats. Two adults with four suitcases do not fit a small car whatever its seat count says, and finding that out at one in the morning at Mopa, an hour and a half from your hotel, is a bad hour.
